This course is now closed for enrollment.
Our next cohort begins March 2022.
Implementation, Spread, and Scale offers easy-to-follow guidance on how you can integrate implementation science into your work to strategically create change.
Our mission at The Center for Implementation (TCI) is to accelerate the application of implementation science to improve outcomes.
If you want to deepen your impact, we can help.
In this self-directed online course, our team will guide you through the complexity of implementing, spreading and scaling interventions using best practices and approaches in implementation science.
You will learn about:
- The importance of implementation supports and implementation teams
- Assessing readiness
- Considering the implementation context
- Planning for adaptations and sustainability
- Building an evaluation plan that incorporates implementation quality
Before we continue,
let's share more about who this is for.
This course is for you if...
- You are planning for the implementation of an intervention and need guidance on how best to move forward
- You are preparing to spread and scale an intervention but want to learn how evidence-based approaches can set you up for success
- You crave clarity around the key roles in the implementation system
- You want to better understand how to achieve more effective team and inter-organizational function
- You want to strengthen how you assess readiness, organizational fit, and the implementation context
- You're looking for tips on how to effectively plan for adaptations and sustainability (and when)
- You want to learn how to evaluate implementation quality, fidelity, and outcomes using new methods
- You want to able to think about implementation from a systems perspective
By taking this course, you will:
Be able to clearly describe what you are implementing (your WHAT, the barriers and facilitators to change, and the implementation strategies).
Have a deeper understanding of your role and the role of others in the implementation system.
Develop your implementation team, implementation supports, and how you will motivate others to change.
Learn how to assess readiness, fit, and the organizational context and how they impact implementation.
Engage stakeholders and organizations and understand how inter-organizational relationships influence implementation.
Develop a roadmap for planned and unplanned adaptations and select a sustainability planning tool.
Create an evaluation plan that considers implementation quality, fidelity, and outcomes.
See how all of the course components tie together though a comprehensive example of implementation, spread, and scale.
Meet and be inspired by other professionals tasked with implementing a program, policy, or innovation.
Implementation science is the field dedicated to studying how to implement and sustain new innovations.
It's complementary to other approaches such as change management and quality improvement and can make a real difference in how you overcome barriers to change.
In Implementation, Spread, and Scale, our expert team will walk you through how to apply implementation science theories, models, and frameworks to enhance how you spread and scale your interventions — and increase your likelihood of success.
We've had participants from a wide range of settings and topic areas, such as:
- Health
- Public Health
- Social Services
- Labor and Employment Services
- Environmental Sciences

"Well done on another engaging course!
Implementation, Spread, and Scale was extremely helpful, not only providing the theory and evidence-base behind implementation practice, but also very practical knowledge. I found ‘listening in’ on the implementation team meetings at the end of each module to be especially useful."
- Penny Love, past Implementation, Spread, and Scale participant

Common Questions About The Course
When does the course start and finish?
Once enrolled you will have until June 30, 2021 to complete the assignments and receive a certificate.
Will I receive a certificate?
Participants who complete all online modules and the 8 assignments by June 30, 2021 will receive a certificate.
Is the course completely online and asynchronous?
Yes, the entire course is online and asynchronous - so it can be completed on your time at your convenience and pace. There are no live webinars, but there are many opportunities to ask questions to course facilitators and other students within the comment sections of the course.
We will also offer further support by holding 4 live group Q & A sessions in which our course facilitators will cover frequently asked questions (dates are TBD).
Our course facilitators will be available to answer questions until June 30, 2021.
How long will I have access to course materials?
Participants will continue to have access to all online content until March 1, 2022 and will always have a copy of the workbooks (which includes all of the theories, models, and frameworks; assignments; suggested readings and additional resources; and the activities). Therefore, the only element participants will lose access to on March 1, 2022 is the online videos.
What is the time commitment?
In terms of time commitment, we anticipate it is about 3 hours a module. Each module includes approximately 1 hour of videos (split into 3-7 videos), 1 hour of online activities, and 1 hour for the assignment. The assignments are about directly relating the content back to your own work; therefore, how much time can be quite variable depending on how much background work you choose to do.
What is the difference between Regular and Premium+ Enrollment?
Course components (i.e., Regular Enrollment) include: 10+ hours of informative video content, interactive activities, 2 extensive workbooks, assignments, networking opportunities; and a Certificate in the Foundations of Implementation, Spread, and Scale upon successful completion of the course.
Premium+ Enrollment provides personalized supports to help you apply what you've learned directly to your own work.
In addition to all course components above, you will receive a 30-minute coaching session with Dr. Julia Moore or Dr. Sobia Khan who will review your assignments in advance of the session and provide feedback targeted to your specific needs. Plus, we will provide you with a transcript of the session.
You will also receive a one-page summary of suggested theories, models, frameworks, tools, and resources created uniquely for you to enhance your specific project or initiative.
Are there student and LMIC discounts?
Yes, we aim to make Implementation, Spread, and Scale accessible to everyone. For Regular enrollment, we offer full-time students a 30% discount and individuals in low- and middle-income countries a 70% discount.
Please e-mail [email protected] for more information.
We are also offering 18 spots for eligible professionals in low- and middle-income middle-income countries as defined by the World Bank to enroll in Implementation, Spread, and Scale for free.
To be entered into the draw for 1 of the 18 free spots, interested participants must complete this form and meet the eligibility requirements. Applications are due Thursday, March 25, 2021.

We are passionate about what we do and can't wait to guide you through Implementation, Spread, and Scale!
I absolutely love to teach and support professionals to apply implementation science to their work. I am inspired and excited every time that a course participant has a lightbulb moment about which framework is a great fit for their context, about why something didn't work in the past, or about what they can do differently moving forward. I can't wait to see how you can transform your change initiative.
