Implementation, Spread, and Scale

An accessible way to strategically plan for implementation, spread, and scale

  Enroll in Course

Open for Enrollment from May 11, 2020 until June 30, 2020.

Our comprehensive 8-module online course on planning for implementation, spread, and scale – informed by the science of implementation.

If you are a professional tasked with implementing a program, policy, or innovation, this course is for you. We welcome participants from a range of settings and topic areas.

Change is hard. Learning about implementation science can help.

Implementation science is the scientific study of how best to implement and sustain new innovations and change. It is complementary to other approaches, such as change management and quality improvement, and can make a real difference in how you overcome barriers to change.

Our new online course, Implementation, Spread, and Scale offers comprehensive, easy-to-follow guidance on how you can successfully integrate implementation science into your day-to-day work. Over 8 modules, our team will guide you through the complexity of implementing, spreading and scaling interventions using best practices and approaches.

In Implementation, Spread, and Scale, you will:

  • Describe the key roles in the implementation system.
  • Understand and describe the role of implementation teams, implementation supports, and the need for effective team and inter-organizational functioning.
  • Assess readiness, organizational fit, and the implementation context.
  • Plan for adaptations and sustainability.
  • Evaluate implementation quality, fidelity, and outcomes.
  • Think about implementation from a systems perspective.

“This course was a perfect reminder of the value of early consultation and consideration of the factors affecting behaviour change to enable tailored strategy selection for intervention design and implementation. Self-paced modules allowed me to revisit material as often as needed to refresh about any concepts, and make additional notes in the workbook. The modules are a good length with useful application examples making the content relevant. I look forward to the next course where we’ll do more deep diving into implementation spread and scalability.”

Penny Love, Senior Lecturer at Deakin University, Australia (Designing for Implementation course participant)

Frequently Asked Questions

When does the course start and finish?
The course enrollment opens May 11, 2020. Once enrolled you will have until September 30, 2020 to finish all activities and assignments to receive a certificate and until May 1, 2021 to access the online course content.
Do I receive a certificate?
Yes, participants who complete all online modules and the 7 assignments by September 30, 2020 will receive a Certificate in the Foundations of Implementation, Spread, and Scale.
How long will I have access to course materials?
Participants will continue to have access to all online content until May 1, 2021 and are welcome to download the two workbooks (which include all of the theories, models, and frameworks covered; suggested readings and additional resources; and the activities). Therefore, the only element participants will lose access to on May 1, 2021 is the online video content.
When will the course be available again?
Implementation, Spread, and Scale will be available every March. Therefore, the next time it will be offered again is March 2021.
Is the course completely online and asynchronous?
Yes, the entire course is online and asynchronous, so it can be completed at your convenience and pace. Starting on May 11, 2020 we will release a new module per week, but you are welcome to choose the order in which you approach any part of the course. There are no live webinars, but there are many opportunities to ask questions to course developers and other students using our discussion boards. We will also offer further support by holding 2 live group sessions in which our course facilitators will cover frequently asked questions (dates are TBD). Our course facilitators will be available to answer questions until September 30, 2020.
What is the time commitment?
In terms of time commitment, we anticipate it is about 3 hours a module. Each module includes approximately 1 hour of videos (split into 3-7 videos), 1 hour of online activities, and 1 hour for the assignment. The assignments are about directly relating the content back to your own work; therefore, how much time can be quite variable depending on how much background work you choose to do.
Are there student and LMIC discounts?
Yes, we aim to make Implementation, Spread, and Scale available to everyone. For full-time students, we offer a $100 USD or $135 CAD discount on the Regular and Premium Enrollment prices. Please e-mail [email protected] to obtain this discount. For individuals in low- and middle-income countries, we offer a special reduced rate on all of our pricing options. E-mail us for more information.
How do I know if the coaching program is right for me?
Are you expected to be the implementation expert in your organization? Are you anticipating that you will lead implementation activities beyond your current projects? Enrolling in our coaching program for Implementation, Spread, and Scale will help not only with your current work but with your overall role as well. Our coaching program is ideal for people who are not only tasked with implementing a project, but responsible for implementation in their organization, so it can help them with their roles. It works best if you have a concrete project to ask questions about.
Can you clarify what kind of support I'll receive from the course facilitators?
For all enrollment types, our course facilitators will respond regularly to your questions on our online discussion boards until September 30, 2020. This is where you can receive direct support. We will also be offering 2 live group sessions with our course facilitators to go over frequently asked questions. These sessions will be scheduled based on maximizing participant attendance. If you select Premium Enrollment, you will receive tailored feedback on your assignments in addition to the above. The deadline to submit assignments is September 30, 2020 in order to receive a certificate (all enrollment types) and to receive feedback (Premium Enrollment and Coaching Program Enrollment).
